Is it 7:30 yet?!

Life with an 11 mont h old is exhausting.   Yes, it can be exciting, joyful, and yes, I have my proud moments too, but today it’s, well, exhausting. The people around me most often I'm sure would say, I tend to hop on the frustration train the moment Syrie starts to act out or they might say I just get down right angry, and they’re right.   I never claimed to be World’s Greatest Mom, but today I tried another approach. I stayed calm, didn’t lose my cool, and yet still she seems to be impossible to satisfy.   Maybe satisfy isn’t the right word because I’m sure that leaves some of you thinking, I spoil her and give her whatever she wants the second she tears up, but that’s not true either.   I had the television off, phone put away, and all of my attention on her.   I was trying to keep her mind off of whatever it was that made her want to whine and fuss, but nothing worked.   I tried ignoring it, but I’m learning that she doesn’t care what ap...

Finished the Cleanse!

Day 9 (Monday): Beginning Day 8 I had to take the Peaches n Cream Fiber Drink again and will have to until the cleanse is over (Tuesday).   Man, I did NOT miss that stuff. It’s so disgusting to me. I almost threw it back up this morning. I know I can do it one more day, but jeez that stuff is nasty.   I’m wondering if this is something I’ll have to take for the remainder of the 24 Day Challenge. I guess I hadn’t thought or looked that far ahead, so I really don’t know. It’s no fun when you hear people cracking open a can of soda or smell someone cooking something in the microwave at work. It just makes me appreciate all the things I was allowed to have before.   I’m such a Debbie Downer through this process, but that’s because food is my life.   Some people enjoy exercising, others enjoy reading.   The thing in life that makes me happiest (outside of family and friends) is food.   I love food.   I realize though, that in order to really keep...

Big News

If you've been following my blog you may have caught on to a comment I made in an earlier post.  Things are going to be changing in the near future because I accepted a position through TM Inc. to work at John Deere in Waterloo at the Donald Street site.  David and I, and our families are very excited.  I've always wanted a job at Deere and going through TMI is a great way to get my foot in the door.  I start on August 22, and while I'm very sad to be leaving VGM, I'm excited to start my new career.  I'll be working with suppliers that John Deere utilizes for parts.

Days 5-8

Day 5 (Thursday): Woo hoo! Half way there J I wish I could say this has been easy as pie, but then there I am again, thinking about pie. I will need to go on a no fruit diet after this cleanse because I’m so tired of fruit. I keep telling myself it’s what’s good for my body. Day 6 (Friday): I didn’t write much yesterday because I had a lot going on (more to come on that in a future post), but I did almost crack last night. I was crabby and hungry and I came home to David making a pizza.   The last thing I wanted was fish and veggies, but I sucked it up and made some tilapia- not the greatest thing in the world, so I think I’ll stick with cod- it was delicious the last two nights I made it. Today and the rest of the weekend are going to be tough. Weekends are tough anyways, what with all the opportunities to drink and eat food, bad food , late at night. Why is it that I can’t go a day without getting a headache? This is getting old. I’m crabby, so you’ll have to excuse the attitu...

Days 3 & 4

Day 3 (Tuesday): I should be ecstatic right now because today was the last day of the dreaded Peaches n Cream Fiber drink until Day 8, but instead I’m feeling a little crabby. Not sure if it’s because of the diet restrictions or if it’s totally unrelated.   I talked to Melissa, the one who got my cousin, Lindsay and I involved in this Challenge, and I’m feeling good about that because from the sounds of it, I’m doing everything right.   Turns out, there was a booklet that came in the package I received on Saturday with all of my Advocare items, BUT I threw it out with the box.   I guess I should be more careful from now on when opening things up.   9 A.M.-I just received an email from a good friend from college who just finished reading my blog and had to email me to tell me she’s on Day 8 of the cleanse J   I guess this diet is more popular than I thought.   She mentioned that after Day 3 she had a hard time sticking to the strict food regimen and was fee...

The 24 Day Challenge

Many of you that know me know I'm battling with this baby weight still.  I've got a good 10 lbs to lose  yet after gaining 45 lbs during pregnancy.  After seeing the results of both my cousin and another familiar face whom have tried Advocare's 24 Day Challenge, I decided to give it a go. I mean with results starting a short 10 days after beginning, how can I go wrong? Remember, I'm going to be in Jamaica in under 6 weeks, and the gym just wasn't giving me the results quick enough.  For those of you who don't know what the 24 Day challenge is, here's a snip-it about the product:  Your 24 Day Program Breakdown Days 1-10 Cleanse Pack      internal cleansing & increased nutrient absorption      amino acid      sugar free energy      protein to nurish muscle & support metabolism Days 11-24 Max Pack      probiotics, appetite control, omega 3's and more ...

Syrie's 9 Month Photos

I know Syrie is into her 10th month of babyhood already, but I figure a lot of these pictures haven't even been seen by most of you, so I wanted to share some of my most favorites from her photo session with Stricker Photography in June. She can be such a ham sometimes. Enjoy!

The 4th Oswald

No, we're not expecting! Are you nuts?!  I'm talking about Hermes, our cat.  He has been on my mind a lot  recently and after my last post I thought what better way to get my thoughts out, then to post on my blog.  After keeping him locked up, 24 hours a day for around 5 or 6 days David and I went into his dungeon one night to grab the vaccuum after a swarm of moths invaded our house, and after petting Hermes' head I noticed big bumps all over the place. Once we got some light on the subject and pulled his hair back we saw he had been scratching himself or his head on something so hard that it bled and then scabbed over.  I decided that night I would call the next morning and see about getting him into the vet just to make sure it wasn't anything else.  Saturday morning we went to see Dr. Schaul and he concluded it wasn't anything serious, but he opted to give him a shot of antibiotics just in case, showed me how to shove these little white pills...

What Once Was, Is No Longer

Everytime I log onto my blogger account, what's the first thing I see? My baby Syrie's smiling face in the picture I have posted at the top of my blog. This was taken the day I saw her dance to music for the first time. The day she got to enjoy sun and a parade. She can be the happiest baby at times, and then she can be the crabbiest, too, which in turn, makes both her mom and dad crabby, as well. Today I'm fighting off the urge to just collapse on my desk. It was another early morning with Syrie's first wake up beginning at 4 a.m.  After fighting with her for 15 minutes she laid back down in her crib and slept until 5:30 a.m.   This still wasn't good enough for David and I, so I let her cry it out in her crib. She was in and out of sleep until I finally got her out of bed at around 7 a.m.  I am anxious to get her to the doctor tomorrow for her 9 month shots because I'm about 90% sure she's got another ear infection. After my last blog post in early June, ...

Just Breathe

What a night!...what a week!!  I have had quite the week of sleepless nights.  This past week Syrie has decided she's ready to wake for the day at 4 a.m.  I have tried everything. I know most of you may be reading this thinking, "Well, have you tried this...?" YUP, I have:)  She goes to bed wonderfully at night, same time as always, so you could say she's still on a schedule, but my thing is, how do you make a baby go back to sleep when they've clearly decided they're ready to be up for the day or should I say, Syrie is ready to be up for a couple hours until of course I need to get up for work, then she's ready to lay back down. The poor thing has been suffering with some allergies along with cutting four top teeth this last week, and so with all of that comes runny/stuffy nose and watery, itchy eyes, oh and just plain crabby.  I've been noticing her having a hard time breathing at night with the paci (pacifier) in her mouth and a nose full of snot...

What's in the Bag?

I took this idea from a blog I read because I thought it was neat.  Sorry if it's a little too personal for you (you don't have to read this), but I'm giving you a look into my purse. The one sacred thing many women would be caught yelling, "What are you doing?! Get out of there!" if someone came to close or heaven forbid, was already in, but not today.  Today I'm going to let you into my bag:) Pictured above is my precious Coach purse that I so graciously received from my husband on Valentine's Day this year.  While there are many other name brands that have even higher priced purses than this, it should still be considered a crime to spend so much on a bag. My god!  I get sick sometimes thinking about how many diapers and formula this purse could have bought us!  Quickly after that I remember that every girl deserves a nice gift once in a while;)  If you look closely, you can see the clear clip that's attached to the left strap...

Busy, Busy Bees

Wedding season has officially arrived. I haven't even had time to think about the planning of my own reception because there has already been so much going on with friends and their big day.  Two weekends ago we threw a bachelorette party for our friend Val who is getting married in June.  The following weekend Syrie, my mom and I traveled to Des Moines for Val's dress fitting and this coming weekend I am co-hosting a bridal shower and then attending a baby shower for another best friend the following day. PHEW! It's been a busy month already and as The Carpenters would say, We've only just begun. Between the two of us, David and I are in five weddings this year, six if you count our own:)  Okay, so I am really only in one and he takes the cake on the other four, but who's counting?  While it's always enjoyable attending parties and weddings, I have to admit sometimes it's a lot easier when you're just a guest.  I'm learning how stressful planning ...

Radiation Impact

Okay, so I know I said in the beginning that this blog would be about my family, but this is one topic that's been on my mind lately and what better way to get it out then to blog. I'm still learning, so be easy on me as some of my facts may not be exact, but let me give you a little history lesson as I understand it to be.... At 1:23 am on April 26, 1986, shortly after my first birthday, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant ( Pripyat, Ukraine)  operators committed a fatal series of errors in the control room of Reactor #4, triggering a meltdown and an explosion that resulted in the world's largest nuclear accident to date.  This tragedy, unlike the more recent Fukushima accident was caused by human error.  To be more definite, it was the result of a flawed reactor design that was operated by inadequately trained personnel.  This accident caused the largest, uncontrolled radioactive release into the environment ever recorded and was the cause of 30 opera...

Omaha, Somewhere in the Middle of America

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter over the past weekend.  My Easter took a surprising, but pleasant turn.  On Friday I got word from my mom that we probably wouldn't be doing Easter dinner because of some business that needed to be taken care of with my grandma, so I thought I'd check with my friend Val to see what she was up to.  Val is one of my best friends from grade school. We share a birthday and have stayed great friends for over 20 years.  She moved to Omaha and I try to visit a few times a year.  With this year being crazy busy and her working weekends, we quickly realized it might be a while before I could make it out there to visit her and her fiance, Luke.  I'll be in her wedding this June and it's sort of become this thing that we're calling it the "Royal Wedding" because for those of you who don't know Val, she likes Fabulous, and that's exactly what this wedding is going to be:)  I get to stand next to her as ma...
