Writing Prompt #1

I stole this idea off of my friend's blog (thanks, Karah).

Prompt: Current Photo, Introduce, 15 Interesting Facts

Current Photo:  This photo was taken at Piramida in Waterloo. We were out for a friend's birthday. Pictured from left to right: Melissa, Jess, myself and Heather.

Introduce:  I'm a 27 year old from Dike, Iowa. I reside in Waterloo with my daughter and husband. I work in Waterloo at one of the Deere facilities in Supply Management. In my spare time I enjoy your standard activities: hanging with family and friends.  I love to entertain, and I'd consider myself a foodie because I have a great deal of interest in food: I like to make it, eat it, serve it, entertain with it, and so on and so forth. I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, traveling and going to see as many shows centered around comedy as I can.

15 Interesting Facts:
I can't promise these will be interesting, so lets call this interesting or strange, and hopefully you will learn something you may not have already known.

1. Sometimes when I get to work in the morning I drink the water that was left in my cup from the afternoon prior because I'm so thirsty, but can't be bothered with the 15 second walk down to the cafeteria for new.
2. I really don't know if I want a second child. One day I'm dead set on having another, and the next day I'm reminded why one child is plenty.
3. I really only enjoy drinking alcohol part of the time. I've never really been the type to come home from a stressful day at work only to open a bottle or crack open a can. I find much more comfort in drinking a can of soda. I pretend that I'm interested in drinking most of the time to keep from standing out.
4. At a young age I decided  I wanted to grow up to be a super model. I have many memories of Saturday mornings waking up, putting on my leotard and laying in front of the living room tv doing aerobics with the Saturday morning instructor. I guess that's what I thought it was gonna take.
5. I benefited from a hard break up years ago because I started spending more time doing and appreciating the smaller things in life. They actually turned out to be the big things. One of those was talking my 80 year old grandma into having a massive vegetable garden in her backyard again, but this time I was going to help. I never could have imagined the amount of manual labor that goes into a garden. Reaping the benefits made it all worth it though. I bet over half of my friends don't really know what a real head of broccoli or lettuce is supposed to taste like. What we get in the grocery store is garbage compared to fresh out of the garden. The quality time with my grandma and appreciation for all the hoeing (no pun intended) she's done over the years was nice too.
6. I think I'm much more tenacious than my peers maybe think of me.
7. I'm one out of maybe ten people in the world that doesn't have Facebook. It's not that I despise it, it's more so I didn't necessarily care for the kind of person I was when I had it. Looking at people's pages whom I wouldn't say hi to on the street is kind of creepy. I don't want people I do not know looking at my stuff either. There's more to it than that, but that's the jist.
8. 2012 was one of the toughest years to date! I learned some, and I lost some, but I hope the decisions I have made will steer me in the right direction.
9. David and I have had a total of 6 different cars in 2012. Let's see, there was the Camry, FJ, Subaru Legacy, Scion FR-S, another Camry and the Tundra. I think we'll stick with what we have.
10. I am a person who really does enjoy giving gifts more than receiving. Hard to believe? I think I am this way because I get a kick out of the excitement of seeing the receipent when they open it. Or possibly I just enjoy spending money..
10. I've never had a speeding ticket. Now that I wrote this I"ll probably get one.
11. One of my most favorite scents is that of our pet cat, Hermes. (This is where it gets weird). I would love when he would come lay on me and I'd stick my nose into his side and just take it all in. I don't expect you non-cat people to understand. Just appreciate my honesty:)
12. I used to be unsatisfied with my wedding ring. I now realize it's all I need.
13. I vowed to quit tanning in tanning beds to save on the aging of my skin, and it has been over a year since I laid in one, and I look 21 again. HA!
14. I'm deathly afraid of opening cans of Pillsbury dough or any refrigerated can dough for that matter. There's something about the unknown, when's it gonna pop aspect that scares me to death. Comparable to those afraid of Jack in the Box I presume.
15. I'm such a softy for animals that I can get teary eyed just from the sight of road kill.

Her First Overnighter

As many of you have already heard, Syrie had her first overnight stay in the hospital at just under 7 months old.  While it's not what I was expecting Wednesday morning when I was advised to bring her in by her Doctor after finding out she had a high temp, I suppose I should just be grateful it turned out to be nothing.  I've always been one to look at things in the way that, if I'm going to go through all this hassle, there better be a good reason for it, dang it!  At least that's how I always looked at this sort of thing when it happened to me.  Now that I have someone else to worry about, I think about things a little differently, but the thought is always in the back of my mind-some things/attitudes are hard to change. Before Wednesday I really had no idea what a high temperature for a child was.  Since this fiasco, I've learned that babies can stay home with a much higher temp then my little miss endured.  All I knew was that my doctor's nurse told m...

Finished the Cleanse!

Day 9 (Monday): Beginning Day 8 I had to take the Peaches n Cream Fiber Drink again and will have to until the cleanse is over (Tuesday).   Man, I did NOT miss that stuff. It’s so disgusting to me. I almost threw it back up this morning. I know I can do it one more day, but jeez that stuff is nasty.   I’m wondering if this is something I’ll have to take for the remainder of the 24 Day Challenge. I guess I hadn’t thought or looked that far ahead, so I really don’t know. It’s no fun when you hear people cracking open a can of soda or smell someone cooking something in the microwave at work. It just makes me appreciate all the things I was allowed to have before.   I’m such a Debbie Downer through this process, but that’s because food is my life.   Some people enjoy exercising, others enjoy reading.   The thing in life that makes me happiest (outside of family and friends) is food.   I love food.   I realize though, that in order to really keep...

Blood Diamond? Try Gassy Diamond.

With all the weddings in the coming months I decided I better start tanning so that I don't look ghostly in my dresses.  Having a baby makes tanning a little more difficult, so I figured I would squeeze it in on my lunch break, and went for the first time in a long time yesterday.  I typically don't wear jewelry when I go in a tanning bed, but because of the time crunch I decided to leave my wedding ring on.  While getting toasty in the bed I looked down at my ring and under the UV lights to my surprise, the far left diamond on my ring was bright blue--not just the top, but the sides, the entire thing!  I panicked and my mind immediately raced back to February when I got my bands soldered to my engagement ring, and I went home to show David. His response to my ring was, "Your ring looks smaller.  You know, sometimes they switch out diamonds on people."  At the time I thought about it for a second, and then assured myself that that would never happen to me....
