A Lot Has Happened in the Last Year

Today marks David and my one year wedding anniversary. It's funny to say that because we've been together (off and on) for almost 5 and half years, so to start over at one sounds silly:) When I look back at the last year, I realize how much has happened. I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I found out I was pregnant while we were already in the process of looking for a house to buy, and then on a whim, we decided to have a quick marriage to help with the bills and make things less complicated with having a baby. That's a big pill to swallow in such a short time. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to marry him and vice versa, but I had no idea my wedding would take place on a Monday in the Grundy County Courthouse:) I'm not complaining, I'm very greatful for everything I have and I'm know how blessed I am. I'm just saying it's not every girl's dream as a child that some day they'll get married in a courthouse, haha. I remember thinking, last year, at what life would be like at this time, this year. I found it really hard to actually imagine myself with a child, and now she's here and it feels like I've been doing this for years.

To celebrate our first wedding anniversary David and I took a trip to Columbus, Ohio to attend the Arnold Sports Festival. While it may not have been the most romantic place in the Midwest, it was something that David has always wanted to attend, and since it was so important to him, I knew I could stomach it for the weekend:)  It's an event that Arnold Schwarzenegger puts on in early March each year.  Some events that are included in the festival are the Arnold Classic which is the body building competition, bikini international, strongman classic, powerlifting, gymnastics, and there's also an Expo that is held for 3 days. We went to the Expo which is where we got to see Arnold, Jay Cutler-4x Mr. Olympia champion, Lou Ferrigno-who I quickly learned is the original Incredible Hulk, and some MMA fighters that I knew nothing about:)  It was a learning experience for me, and a dream come true for David.

Branch Warren, a native of Texas was a favorite
at the Body Building competition and he took home
1st place along with a nice chunk of change-$130,000.
You all know who this guy is...I took this picture and the following one with my phone.
It was pretty neat to see him in person, but I have to say, I don't think the person
who colors his hair does the greatest job;)
Lou Ferrigno-better known as the Incredible Hulk. I learned during his speech at the
body building finals that he worked through lots of obstacles as a child
such as poverty and hearing loss.

Looking back on these pictures reminds me that while this may not have been the vacation I would have chose for us, it was a great experience. I got to see a lot of important and inspirational people, and I learned quite a bit from my all-knowing husband..he's smarter than he looks;) hehe.

Is it 7:30 yet?!

Life with an 11 mont h old is exhausting.   Yes, it can be exciting, joyful, and yes, I have my proud moments too, but today it’s, well, exhausting. The people around me most often I'm sure would say, I tend to hop on the frustration train the moment Syrie starts to act out or they might say I just get down right angry, and they’re right.   I never claimed to be World’s Greatest Mom, but today I tried another approach. I stayed calm, didn’t lose my cool, and yet still she seems to be impossible to satisfy.   Maybe satisfy isn’t the right word because I’m sure that leaves some of you thinking, I spoil her and give her whatever she wants the second she tears up, but that’s not true either.   I had the television off, phone put away, and all of my attention on her.   I was trying to keep her mind off of whatever it was that made her want to whine and fuss, but nothing worked.   I tried ignoring it, but I’m learning that she doesn’t care what ap...

Her First Overnighter

As many of you have already heard, Syrie had her first overnight stay in the hospital at just under 7 months old.  While it's not what I was expecting Wednesday morning when I was advised to bring her in by her Doctor after finding out she had a high temp, I suppose I should just be grateful it turned out to be nothing.  I've always been one to look at things in the way that, if I'm going to go through all this hassle, there better be a good reason for it, dang it!  At least that's how I always looked at this sort of thing when it happened to me.  Now that I have someone else to worry about, I think about things a little differently, but the thought is always in the back of my mind-some things/attitudes are hard to change. Before Wednesday I really had no idea what a high temperature for a child was.  Since this fiasco, I've learned that babies can stay home with a much higher temp then my little miss endured.  All I knew was that my doctor's nurse told m...

Blood Diamond? Try Gassy Diamond.

With all the weddings in the coming months I decided I better start tanning so that I don't look ghostly in my dresses.  Having a baby makes tanning a little more difficult, so I figured I would squeeze it in on my lunch break, and went for the first time in a long time yesterday.  I typically don't wear jewelry when I go in a tanning bed, but because of the time crunch I decided to leave my wedding ring on.  While getting toasty in the bed I looked down at my ring and under the UV lights to my surprise, the far left diamond on my ring was bright blue--not just the top, but the sides, the entire thing!  I panicked and my mind immediately raced back to February when I got my bands soldered to my engagement ring, and I went home to show David. His response to my ring was, "Your ring looks smaller.  You know, sometimes they switch out diamonds on people."  At the time I thought about it for a second, and then assured myself that that would never happen to me....
